Jack and the Beanstalk

February 26, 2011

I’ve been a bit swamped and haven’t been able to fit in a new fairy tale image.  But this illustration is from “The Truth About Ogres” that I illustrated for Picture Window Books.  Jack and the Beanstalk!!  Happy Fairy Tales to you!!

It’s Tell a Fairy Tale Day!

February 26, 2011

The sun was shining brightly, but it was not too warm under the shade of the old trees, and Little Red Riding-Hood went on her way singing and gathering great bunches of wild flowers to give to her grandmother. She sang so sweetly that a cushat dove flew down from a tree and followed her.

Now, it happened that a wolf, a very cruel, greedy creature, also heard her as she passed, and longed to eat her for his breakfast, but he knew Hugh, the woodman, was at work very near with his great dog, and he was afraid they might hear Little Red Riding-Hood cry out if he frightened her, and then they would kill him. So, after following her a little way, he came up to her very gently and said, “Good day, Little Red Riding-Hood, where are you going?”

This is a day that Fairy Tales are made of … It’s Tell a Fairy Tale Day.

To qualify as a fairy tale, a story does not have to begin with “Once upon a time…..”. But, they usually do, and there’s nothing better than a good story that ends with “and they all lived happily ever after”. Read one today!

On the Seventh Day

December 19, 2010

My true love gave to me…

Meet the Synchronized Sisters of Sunnyvale.
These lovely ladies are known far and wide for their beauty, grace and of course their precision technique! Never a more friendly gaggle of gals could be found. That is, until Sylvia joined the group! She was a rare bird indeed!!

Then the feathers flew!!  “Why does she always get to stay above water?”

Sylvia just smiled and let it roll like water off a ducks back… or should I say swan!

Taking a nap at the Diner!

Ruby Rue

October 29, 2010

Ruby Rue makes magnificent stew.
Though her secret ingredient nobody knew
Onions and turnips and celery root
Frog legs and toenails and of course eye of newt
Dinner at Ruby’s became all the rage
Her name dropped at parties, the society page

The line for a table became a quite joke
But Ruby was cordial as she pinched and she poked
All things have an ending, just as Ruby feared
The crowds had soon dwindled, her guests disappeared.
“Table for one,” whispered poor Ruby Rue
It’s hard to keep friends when they’re on the menu

Halloween Promo

October 25, 2010

This is my latest promotional postcard. I sent this out about two week ago, so hopefully everyone on the mailing list got theirs!

I’ve been trying to stay consistent with promotion this year and even stepped it up a notch, that and  a lot of crossed fingers and toes!

Today I’ve been sketching a holiday promo card.  Happy promoting…. errr   Halloween!
